The port of Felixstowe is the largest container port in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. Logistical planning was essential in allowing DB Construction to carry out paving works on the quayside in a safe manner and to meet the critical deadlines given by PFL.
Working by the quay side with multipurpose crane vehicles using the route as a thoroughfare presented many potential hazards. The organization on men and plant working by the water’s edge had to have meticulous planning so as not to inhibit the activities of one of the world’s busiest ports, but also ensuring there was no compromise to employees safety.
This project presented challenges with the environment, firstly the quay side is in a continual state of flux, open to the elements and potential pollution to the water body meant that a process of environmental monitoring, measuring and review was essential for the successful completion of this high profile project. In conclusion this project was completed safely and ahead of schedule.
